Round 4 of the DMCC series took place in Victoriaville Quebec which is about half way between Montreal and Quebec City. It is the second year that the series makes it way here and judging from last year it was going to be a awesome event. What is special about this event is that there is not a race track in Victoriaville so a track layout is constructed in a snow dump that does not get used in the summer.. Everything from the grand stands to the restaurants gets trucked in to turn something boring into a full on race track..
On the first day of the event it was the practice sessions and qualifications for both Pro and Pro AM drivers leaving the main event in both class鈥檚 for the Sunday. Practice started off really good as drivers were learning the track.. The lay out includes a high speed entry into a sweeper that leads to a jump ( yes I said jump ! ) then a very tight section and back out.. Everything was going great until on Brad Carltons first practice pass he went a way too fast and ended his drift on top of the safety walls. It took a forklift to get him down. Luckly his team was able to get him back out on track where as luck would have it he crashed again since the car was acting weird after the first crash..
The rest of the practice was great and pretty much incident free. It was crazy how tight the tandems were in just practice, its one of the reason why I love this track so much..
After practice it was time for the qualification runs. Jo Thiffault was on fire all day and got him the 3rd spot. Dave Briggs entered at 130kmh, fastest entry and get him the 2nd qualification position. Taking the top qualification spot was Mike Pollard who layed down a crazy run and also got some good air over the jump.. Pat Cyr who was leading the points racing going into this event did not even qualify after having a major mistake in both his pass鈥檚.
On the next day it was time for the Top 16 battles. The battles all the way through to the top 8 were intense but it was the top 4 where the action really happened. Top 4 came down to Marc Landreville, Jo Thiffault, Francis Tasse and Dave Briggs. Battle for 3rd was between Marc and Jo. Marc is a master at tandems, but Jo really stepped it up and on Marc鈥檚 lead run he over rotated in front of Jo and they made contacted giving the 3rd place on the podium to Jo Thiffault, his first podium in DMCC. The final 2 was between two blue S14鈥檚, Francis and Dave Briggs. Francis has been super impressive all season and even podiumed for the first time at the last event. The battle went to a one more time and in the end Dave Briggs pulled off the win in Victoriaville. Dave also took home the NOS Energy Fastest entry contest trophee with his crazy 130 kmh run. With his 4th place finish Marc Landreville is now leading the points chase but it is still anybody鈥檚 game with 3 more rounds to go.
