New Guard

New Guard

With no end to the Scion craze in sight, there is always something new on the horizon. We have seen drag Scions, drift Scions, Hot Rod Scions and even some with wooden paneling like the Fords of back in the day. So when Harvey DeLuca’s insane Spiderman-themed xB popped up at Spring Break Nationals we kind looked at each other and said “ya, that looks about right.” Truth be told, nothing surprises us when it comes to the Scion, the car that has run wild with Generation Y and the Echo Boomers.

There is so much reference to the Marvel comic character that we’re surprised a team of lawyers hasn’t been sent over to his house to disassemble this build.

At first glance, there isn’t much question about what DeLuca was aiming for here. The exterior and interior of the project is a blend of traditional crime-fighting Spiderman and his evil twin who is bent on helping crime rule the city! There is so much reference to the Marvel comic character that we’re surprised a team of lawyers hasn’t been sent over to his house to disassemble this build. But doing that would leave DeLuca broken since he has chewed through $75,000 and more than six years working on this project.

DeLuca’s attention was focused on the exterior that would get him noticed at shows. The exterior is a blend of multi-stage red and black paint jobs. There are four stages of airbrushing alone, which was done by John Burroughs of Melbourne, FL. A handful of lighting upgrades were also done, including HIDs and LED Glows 3-million color under-car lighting. Appearance wise, only the 15x7-inch drag wheels and Nitto NT450 tires were added to achieve the lowered look with an Easy Street air suspension.

Inside are loads of custom leather and suede work, also done by Jeff Burroughs. Everything has been recovered in a 821054658_EhZ6v-O_thSpiderman theme from gauges to floor mats and seats. DeLuca even went as far as creating false floors in the car that can be pulled open to reveal…wait for it…Spiderman costumes.

The stage was set for some extreme audio and Soundstream stepped up to supply DeLuca with whatever he required. Beginning with a Soundstream VIR 7355 NRBT headunit, the signals are carried towards the Soundstream PQ7 equalizer for cleanup, and then head to a Soundstream TRX200.D mono amp which drives quad Soundstream Picasso 15-inch subs forward mounted in the rear cargo area. The mids are amplified by a Soundstream TRX 4.880 amplifier to drive the Soundstream Tarntula TRC 6.5-inch components found throughout the cabin. Soundstream also supplied their Capcell battery and Stinger provided all of the power and ground wire as well as the fuse block. A PS2 slim has been integrated into the dash with a Power Acoustic rear LCD for gaming and DVD playback.
