William Chang is from Santa Fe Springs, California. Representing Team R Rydes, this is his 1993 Mazda RX-7 with a 1JZ engine. Though the motor swap it not popular among Mazda rotary die-hards, this is his version of the perfect Mazda RX-7. William gave up on the rotary motor because it gave him too many issues.
The 1JZ with CD09, which is essentially a 350Z transmission, works perfectly in the RX-7. Everything is custom, including the top mount and the front mount. On E85, it produces 632 horsepower, and William doesn't regret switching the motor at all. He no longer has to premix; he's not required to do anything - just get in the car, start it up, and go.
William launched a brand-new business called Drifz Wheelz this year. It was displayed at SEMA the previous year. It is a unique wheel. Equipped to his RX-7 is a set of free-form wheels with Falken tires, which was also his sponsorship from SEMA the previous year. They are all-season, yet great tires for daily comfort driving.
The RX-7 sits on Air Force air suspension, Air Lift 3P Management, and dual VIAIR air compressors.
The motor swap is his favourite part. Everyone who walks by and glances under the hood wonders, "What the hell is that?"
Interior completion is a future modification. Add sound to it as as well. This will complete the car. Even with the exterior complete, it is insufficient for William. He frequently drives the RX-7 and occasionally visits the racetrack. His goal is to drag race it, so he'll have to work on the motor a little bit more and increase the power. He's currently pushing 30lbs of boost.
