aFe Takeda: Lexus IS-F Intake

When Lexus took a serious swing at the BMW M cars, their first attempt was nothing short of spectacular. To run with the Germans, the interiors had to be luxurious, suspensions had to be on-point and the power output had to be comfortably in the 400-range The resulting Lexus IS-F is a potent Sport Sedan with a fire-spitting Yamaha 5.0L V8 that comes out of the box with a throaty intake system that makes power. But for the professionals at Takeda USA, they realize there is always more power left on the table and that philosophy has resulting in their latest intake the TR-2011P for the IS-F.

The short ram design is perfect for the already tight engine bay where Lexus engineers have crammed in a V8 into the compact IS chassis. The benefit of the short ram is that the air intake is more direct and responsive versus the cold air intake designs but can be subject to heat soak. However, the intake also features a thermal break to keep the hot air out and the coldest possible air in the crowded engine bay. The sealed intake design mounts directly to the factory air box for ease of installation for most enthusiasts.

Constructed of a smooth 1-piece polished aluminum tube, the air flow is unobstructed and offers a significant visual upgrade to the engine bay. The intake tube is capped with aFe鈥檚 new Pro Dry S filter which requires no oil for the utmost filtration. Blocking 99.2% of the particulate, this synthetic media prevents all kinds of direct and debris from entering the motor, yet hauls in all kinds of fresh, clean air. The kit comes complete with all the necessary hardware, couplers and clamps for a hassle-free install on your IS-F.

In recent testing, the aFe intake produced some impressive numbers. On the rollers, the intake churned out an extra 16hp with 15lb-ft of torque. For you numbers guys out there, that would leapfrog the E90 BMW M3 by about 12hp! If you want to keep up with the Germans, Takeda is a good place to start and for $366US, it won鈥檛 break the bank.
