NASCAR Mavericks won't be just another tribute to stock car racing - it’s a gritty, in-depth exploration of the personalities and pivotal moments that have shaped the sport over its 76-year history. Stripped of the usual gloss, this book digs into the stories of the rule-breakers and trendsetters who’ve redefined what it means to be a NASCAR driver, engineer, and team owner.
Set to release on November 12, 2024, NASCAR Mavericks: The Rebels and Racers Who Revolutionized Stock Car Racing presents over 60 stories, organized by decade, that chronicle the evolution of NASCAR from its beginnings with the original maverick, Bill France Sr., to the modern-day scene. Co-authors H.A. Branham, a seasoned NASCAR historian, and Holly Cain, a veteran motorsports journalist, offer a unique perspective by drawing on insights from industry insiders and seasoned journalists who were in the thick of it.
Bookended by a foreword from three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart and an afterword by current star Ross Chastain, the narrative weaves through the lives and careers of iconic figures like the Busch brothers, Brian France, and Chad Knaus, alongside teams such as Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing. The book doesn’t shy away from the early pioneers either, featuring legends like Smokey Yunick, Curtis Turner, Louise Smith, Janet Guthrie, and Wendell Scott. Technology plays a significant role in the stories, with a nod to some of the more creative - and occasionally outlawed - innovations that pushed the boundaries of the sport.
With its blend of striking photography and candid storytelling, NASCAR Mavericks is more than just a history book - it’s a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the real forces that have driven NASCAR forward. This release follows the success of last year’s NASCAR 75 Years, offering fans another deep dive into the world of stock car racing.
